Turtle and Terrapin Care Guide Review

by admin on December 9, 2008

When i was a kid i lived on a farm. On this farm we had many dams, my dad attempted to make the one closest to our house into two dams but instead accidentally created a massive wetlands as the two dams joined forces and formed a huge rather shallow lake… type thing.

Being the enquisitive kid i was i used to head down to the dam and check out stuff, tadpoles, eels etc. On occaision I would find washed up on the shores tiny little turtles. Ignoring my fathers instructions I decided to adopt one of these little critters and take it back to the house and love it and feed it and be merry.

Being somewhere around the age of 8, i did not know the first thing about how to actually look after one of these amazing creatures. So i dug a hole in the ground and put an ice cream container in filled with water and put an old guinea pig cage over the top of it. A couple of weeks passed and everything seemed fine, then i noticed my pet turtle would not come out of his shell. Then after another couple of days i noticed he had not moved very much at all. Then my Dad had to tell me the bad news, my turtle had died. DEVISTATED.

This was all before the age of the internet and we had to resort to things called “books” to research. The closest library was a 2 hour drive away (not counting the mobile library that came to school every now and then, which only had primary school type books).  So i had no access to any information on how to care for a pet turtle. These days you’ve got it lucky. There are people out there that know a whole lot about caring for turltes and terrapins and they are prepared to share that knowledge with you.

Going right through to how to care and treat diseases. This means you can learn everything you will ever need to know to give your turtle a better quality of life. If you are thinking about getting a turtle for yourself or your children (they are great pets) then this guide shows you alot about how to care for pet turtles and terrapins.
